    Accessibility Requirements

    Accessibility laws and policies affecting telecommunications companies include:
    • Section 255 - Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 implements U.S. Federal Communications Commission rules requiring that telecommunications manufacturers and service providers make their products and services accessible to people with disabilities.
    • Section 508 & Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - Both Section 508 and the ADA require equal access to IT systems, including Web sites, Web applications, software, and hardware, to be accessible to people with disabilities.
    • International - Telecommunications organizations must also comply with accessibility requirements for international markets including the United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, Japan, and Australia.
